How to install an MT5 indicator or EA
Every tool on IndicatorFree is a single compiled .ex5 file for MetaTrader 5. Installing takes about a minute.
- 1Download the file. Press “Download free · Google Drive” on the tool’s page. Google Drive opens; press Download. You get one .ex5 file. No account is needed.
- 2Open the data folder. In MetaTrader 5 choose File → Open Data Folder. A folder window opens. Go into MQL5, then Indicators (for an indicator) or Experts (for an EA).
- 3Copy the file there. Move the .ex5 file into that folder. Leave the file name as it is.
- 4Refresh and attach. Back in MT5, right-click Indicators or Expert Advisors in the Navigator and choose Refresh. Drag the tool onto a chart and press OK.
Indicator or EA?
An indicator only draws on the chart and sends alerts. An Expert Advisor (EA) places trades. Run any EA on a demo account first, with the inputs listed on its page.
Common problems
The tool does not appear in the Navigator
It is in the wrong folder. Indicators go in MQL5\Indicators, EAs in MQL5\Experts. Refresh the Navigator after moving it.
“Cannot load … error 4802” or nothing shows
The file was blocked by Windows. Right-click the .ex5 file → Properties → tick Unblock, then refresh MT5.
The EA is attached but does not trade
Switch on Algo Trading in the toolbar and tick “Allow Algo Trading” in the EA’s Common tab. Check the spread filter input as well.
Push alerts do not arrive on the phone
Enter your MetaQuotes ID under Tools → Options → Notifications and tick “Enable push notifications”. Send a test message from that window.
Google Drive says “quota exceeded”
Too many downloads today on that link. Use the “mirror link” under the download button.
MT4?
The tools are built and tested for MetaTrader 5 only. An .ex5 file does not run in MetaTrader 4.
