Ranges in pips. Last candle: 2026-11-01. Red in “Last 5 days” means the market has been at least 20% busier than its 20-day average; grey means at least 20% quieter.

How it is calculated

Every day our data terminal reads the daily candles of each market from a raw-spread broker server and sends them to this page. The 20-day ATR is the average true range of the 20 completed days before today: the larger of high − low, high − previous close and previous close − low. It counts gaps, so it is a little higher than the plain high-to-low average.

Last 5 days is the average high-to-low range of the five most recent completed days, a quick check of whether the market is busier or quieter than usual. Today is the range of the candle that is still open. Busiest session is the session (Asia 00–07, London 07–13, New York 13–21 UTC) whose hourly candles added up to the biggest range, counted over the last 20 days.

To turn a range into a position size, use the lot size calculator. For the meaning of ATR itself, see the average true range entry.

FAQ

What is a good stop loss compared with the daily range?

A stop much smaller than the normal intraday swing gets hit by noise. Many traders keep day-trade stops above 15–25% of the average daily range and avoid targets that need more than the whole range in one session.

Why does the range change so much from day to day?

News, holidays and the day of the week all matter. Ranges are often smaller on Mondays and holidays and larger on days with US jobs data, CPI or central bank decisions. That is why the 20-day average is steadier than any single day.

How is a pip defined for gold, oil and indices here?

Forex pairs use 0.0001 (0.01 for JPY pairs). Gold uses 0.1, silver 0.01, oil 0.01, and indices and bitcoin use 1 point. Brokers differ, so check how yours counts pips before copying a number into an EA.

What does "% used" mean?

Today’s high-to-low range divided by the 20-day average true range. Past 100% the market has already moved more than a typical full day; new breakouts after that point fail more often than early-session ones, though not always.
