Overview
Inside Bar Breakout draws bullish breakout arrows, bearish breakout arrows, a line (Trend EMA), pending mother bar box zones and a panel (On-chart panel) on the main price chart in MetaTrader 5, free to download. When a Bullish breakout arrow prints, it can send pop-up, push and sound alerts. We logged 195 of its signals at bar close on EURUSD M15 and re-read them after the test: none had changed. Start with MinMotherRangeATR, default 0.5 — minimum mother bar range = this x ATR (0.1-3.0).

Signal statistics
Over 2 Jul 2026 – 1 Oct 2026 on EURUSD M15, the indicator printed 195 arrows. After 43.6% of them, price moved 1×ATR(14) in the arrow's direction before moving 1×ATR against it (median null bars). 0.5% reached neither level within 20 bars.
This measures price movement after the arrow, not a trading result. It includes no spread, commission, stop loss or position sizing.

How to read it
A Bullish breakout arrow (buffer 0) prints when a closed bar closes above the high of the pending mother bar (a bar with range >= MinMotherRangeATR x ATR followed by one or more inside bars), and above the EMA when UseEmaFilter is on. With the default MinMotherRangeATR=0.5, expect roughly 14.8 arrows per week on EURUSD M15.
A Bearish breakout arrow (buffer 1) prints when a closed bar closes below the low of the pending mother bar (a bar with range >= MinMotherRangeATR x ATR followed by one or more inside bars), and below the EMA when UseEmaFilter is on. With the default MinMotherRangeATR=0.5, expect roughly 14.8 arrows per week on EURUSD M15.
Price above Trend EMA only bullish breakouts are signalled (when UseEmaFilter is on); price below it only bearish breakouts are signalled (when UseEmaFilter is on).
Pending mother bar box zones are removed when a closed bar closes beyond the mother bar high or low, a bar that is not an inside bar ends the setup, or the setup is older than MaxLookbackBreakoutBars bars (input MaxLookbackBreakoutBars, default 30).
The On-chart panel panel shows last breakout signal (direction, close, breakout level, strength, bars ago), pending mother bar status with bars elapsed, mother high and low with distance in pips, inside bar count and last inside bar range, signals today (buy / sell), EMA filter state and price side of the EMA.
Installation
- 1Download InsideBarBreakoutArrows.ex5 from the button above (Google Drive).
- 2In MetaTrader 5: File → Open Data Folder → MQL5 → Indicators. Copy InsideBarBreakoutArrows.ex5 there.
- 3Restart MT5 or right-click Indicators in Navigator → Refresh.
- 4Drag Inside Bar Breakout onto a chart. For push alerts, enable "Allow push notifications" under Tools → Options → Notifications.
